Questions

The things people ask me most before ordering a piece. If yours isn't here, write to me.

How long does a piece take?

Around two weeks, depending on how much work is in the studio at that moment. A large piece takes two or three days of weaving; the rest is the queue of orders ahead of it. When I send you the quote I give you the real date.

Why do the prices say "from"?

Because every piece is woven to size, and the price follows how much fibre goes into it. The price you see is for that piece at its reference size. Larger costs more, smaller costs less. In the quote I give you a closed figure, with shipping listed separately.

Can I change the size and the colours?

Yes, and it's the norm. Since the piece is woven once you ask for it, everything is decided before I start: the size, the palette and the proportion. In the request form you can pick colours from the chart and say how much of each you want.

What if I don't know what size I need?

Send me the measurements of the wall — width and height — and a photo of the space if you can. With that I'll propose the proportion that works there. It's part of the job, not a favour: a well-measured piece is the difference between filling a wall and disappearing into it.

How do I hang it?

With a wooden peg anchored to the wall: a knob that sticks out about three centimetres, with the piece resting on it. It's what I use, because it spreads the weight and keeps the piece slightly off the wall — which is what lets the shadow show. On brick or concrete it goes in with a wall plug; on plasterboard, with an expanding anchor. Tell me what your wall is made of and I'll tell you exactly what to ask for at the hardware shop. The peg doesn't come with the piece: it's a wooden knob from any hardware shop, it costs very little, and I'll tell you exactly which one to ask for depending on your wall.

How do I clean and care for it?

It doesn't get washed. Clean it with a dry cloth or a feather duster, without rubbing, and comb the fringes now and then with a wide-toothed comb. Where to put it: somewhere ventilated, away from direct sunlight, damp and any source of heat. And two things for when it arrives: take it out of its packaging within the first five days, and don't be surprised if the shade of the raw cotton varies slightly from one piece to another. It's undyed natural fibre; that shift in colour is exactly what makes it natural.

Do you ship to my country?

Yes. Pieces travel by DHL or FedEx and have already reached homes across the Americas and Europe, as well as South Africa and the Philippines. The cost is quoted for each shipment, because it depends on the size of the box and where it's going — that's why I ask for your city and postcode.

Who pays customs duties?

They're paid by whoever receives the piece, and I can't work them out for you: every country applies its own rules and the courier charges them on delivery. I say so up front, before you decide, so nothing surprising turns up at your door.

How do I pay?

Outside the site: there's no cart and no online checkout here. Once the quote works for you, I send you the details to pay by transfer or with PayPal, in your own currency: pesos in Mexico, euros in Europe, dollars everywhere else.

Can I return the piece?

There are no returns, and the reason is that each piece is woven for one wall: it can't go back to stock because there is no stock. That's why I take the earlier part seriously — measurements, colours, a photo of the space. I'd rather settle the doubts while it's still a message and not a finished piece.

Can I ask for something that isn't in the catalogue?

Yes. The catalogue is a starting point, not a closed list. Tell me what you have in mind — or send me a reference you like — and I'll tell you whether it can be woven and what it would cost.

Still wondering about something?
